Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: July 4, 2026

PryvacyCompass is a reader-supported publication. This page discloses our affiliate and commercial relationships in compliance with the Federal Trade Commission’s guidelines on endorsements and testimonials.

How We Make Money

When you click a link on PryvacyCompass and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a commission. This commission comes from the retailer or product seller — not from you. You pay the same price whether you click through our link or visit the seller directly.

We participate in multiple affiliate programs and networks, including performance-based affiliate networks that connect publishers with consumer product brands. Our affiliate relationships span the product categories we cover: data backup devices, identity protection services, password managers, antivirus software, VPN services, data broker removal tools, personal safety technology, and other consumer security and privacy products.

Not every product we cover has an affiliate relationship. We write about products because they are relevant to our readers — not because they generate revenue for us.

Our Editorial Independence

Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial coverage, ratings, or recommendations. Specifically:

  • We do not accept payment to write positive reviews or alter published ratings.
  • Products with affiliate links are held to the same evaluation standards as products without them.
  • Affiliate partners do not review our content before publication.
  • We do not suppress negative reviews or unfavorable comparisons to protect affiliate relationships.
  • If a product we earn a commission on fails to meet our standards, we say so.

The revenue from affiliate commissions funds the research, product evaluation, and editorial work that keeps PryvacyCompass free for every reader. Our ability to remain independent depends on earning this revenue honestly — which means our recommendations must be trustworthy enough that readers act on them.

FTC Compliance

The Federal Trade Commission requires that material connections between endorsers and advertisers or sellers be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. In accordance with these requirements:

  • Articles and guides that contain affiliate links display a disclosure notice near the top of the page.
  • Individual affiliate links may be identified with a label or notation where practical.
  • Product reviews that were conducted using items provided at no cost by the manufacturer disclose this at the top of the review.
  • Sponsored or paid content, if published, is labeled clearly as such and is separate from our editorial content.

Third-Party Tracking

Affiliate links on PryvacyCompass route through tracking systems used by our affiliate networks and partners. These systems record that a click originated from our site in order to attribute any resulting commission. The tracking is limited to this commercial purpose. We do not sell your browsing behavior to third parties, and our affiliate networks’ data handling is governed by their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.

Questions

If you have questions about our affiliate relationships, editorial practices, or how we evaluate specific products, please see our About page for additional detail on our editorial standards.

This disclosure applies to all content published on pryvacycompass.com/. It is reviewed and updated whenever our affiliate program participation changes materially. The most recent update date is shown at the top of this page.
