The PryvacyCompass Privacy Journey

Every guide on PryvacyCompass fits somewhere in a reader’s learning process. Some articles explain a risk for the first time, some help you check your own exposure, some walk you through fixing something specific, and some are for after something has already gone wrong. We call this the Privacy Journey: five stages, independent of topic, that describe how deep into a subject a given guide takes you.

You don’t have to read these in order — most people jump around based on what’s happening in their life right now. This page exists so that if you notice a small “Privacy Journey” note near the top of an article, you can come here to see what that stage means and what else exists at the same depth.

1. Aware — Understand What’s at Risk

These guides explain a threat or concept for the first time: what it is, how common it is, and why it matters. Start here if a topic is new to you.

2. Assess — Find Out Where You Stand

These guides help you check your own specific exposure, rather than explain the risk in general.

3. Protect — Take the Specific Action

These guides walk you through one specific action that reduces your exposure, whether or not anything has happened yet.

4. Recover — Respond to an Incident

These guides are for after something has already happened: the full response plan, not just prevention.

5. Sustain — Stay Protected Long-Term

These guides cover the ongoing habits that keep you protected once the initial work is done: periodic checkups, monitoring, and maintenance. We don’t have a guide here yet — it’s next on our list.
